Pierce Edens is a Madison County boy. He picked up the guitar for the first time at the age of 9. He began writing songs many years later. He still does so. Now, his band is rocking out on those songs. If this computer is working, a few of them should be playing now.

Christabel and the Jons
$5.00 Cover

"Christa DeCicco has a full, confident voice that she uses for just the right kind of music. Call it "folky" to a lot of folks and a less-than-stellar stereotype might come to mind. But DeCicco doesn't rest her acoustic, gypsy-hinted blues-folk on the laurels of languid strumming and hackneyed lyrical melodrama. With the Jons, she has a trio that makes it all swing a bit. There's some swagger to their steps".

Wendy Jans
$5.00 Cover

I moved to Nashville in 2002 and began learning how to write for the country market. I got a publishing deal with an independent music row publisher and got to do some cool things like participate in Nashville Public Radio’s Songwriter Sessions. In 2005, I was named winner of the River Bluff Performing Songwriting Competition and also racked up a couple of accolades as a finalist in the International Song Search and Honorable Mentions in the Billboard World Song Contest and Nashville Song Search. But, restless again, I realized that I wanted and needed to express myself without going thru the Nashville Rulebook – interpreting my own ideas and channeling my deeply-ingrained, yet variable musical influences like; Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Karen Carpenter, Jill Scott, Amy Grant, Elton John and India Arie. I ended up writing my new album, (Today), that, I think, is uniquely me. This was also my opportunity to produce – allowing me to interpret my music and my words with absolute freedom (with the help of my awesome programmer and co-producer, Jason Garner). I absolutely loved the creativity of this process, and the chance to work with some of the most amazing musicians in Nashville. So there you have it. Until I wander again, I’m happy to have arrived at Today.

Barnacle

Barnacle is an acoustic/electric trio (two acoustic guitars, one electric bass) that has been a fixture around Brevard the last four years. Originally a duo founded by Michael Babb and Naren Schoenacher as a side project to their primary groups (Electro Dog and MarsupiaL respectively), Robert Jones (formerly of the band Peace Jones) was asked, early last year, to join them on bass.

Their sound is derived from a long, diverse list of influences. Given the variety of sounds Barnacle draws from, there is bound to be something for everyone in their original material. Generally speaking, their own sound might be described as folk-rock with elements of funk and blues.

Chic Night in the Back Room!
Featuring Laura Blackley and Nikki Talley
$5.00 Cover

Laura Blackley
You can’t get nothing out of your art if it don’t sting you a little bit in the process. That’s my philosophy on writing songs. I’ve been writing songs and stories since I was 5 years old. I’ve been doing it as a job for the past 15 years. I specialize in love and murder ballads, ghost stories, and done-somebody-wrong songs. I love the blues, rock and roll, and country music, and you can tell it when you listen to my records.

Nikki Talley

Now at 30, self taught & captivating...mesmorizing audiences with her energetic stage performance, her powerful voice & strongly emotional and seductive lyrics, nikki's songs are very unique and each one gives us different look inside the artist...from pretty piano tunes to guitar-based acoustic rock songs, each is all a part of her.

The Cheeksters
$5.00 Cover

...the usual Britpop (most notably on “What The Pretty Girl Did” and “Tumble Down Hair”) influences abound – that is, after all, what the band does best-but the traces of Memphis soul and Bakersfield country are just as welcome and essential. On “Sideways,” Shannon contributes the year’s most seductive vocal while Little’s playfully layered guitars hearken directly back to the production values of Mickie Most and Paul Samwell-Smith… Its heart may lie in the mystic sixties but, much like the best of that era, it sounds as bright and fresh as a Beach Boys sunflower. --Rapid River (Asheville, N.C.)

Karma

KARMA is a force to be reckoned with. An Indie pop-rock artist, equipped with phenomenal talent, addictive songs and an uncanny ability to captivate every listener. Her sound is reminiscent of Suzanne Vega and Natalie Merchant infused with the pop friendliness of The Cranberries. Without a doubt KARMA’s most powerful quality is the blatant heartache instilled into her writing and performances – an attribute that has won her the accolade of 1 wordsmith in her homeland.

Tori Sparks

Tori Sparks calls Nashville home, but spends most of her time on the road
in the U.S. and Europe. Called “a knockout” by the Village Voice, her
dynamic live show is equal parts soulful singing and zany stand-up-style
humor.  Tori’s latest album Under This Yellow Sun was produced by indie
rock veteran David Henry (R.E.M., Ben Folds, Cowboy Junkies), and features
players such as Steve Bowman (Counting Crows), Aaron Sands (Jars of Clay),

Stephanie's ID
$5.00 Cover

"Although generally referred to as an indie-pop band, their sound is actually far more complex and compelling than that genre label implies. Starting off as a darkly bittersweet piano-bar duo (with Chuck Lichtenberger ..s and Stephanie Morgan singing), the group has since expanded to a full band and become one of the most interesting, experimental and creatively edgy acts in town. And they’ve been successful to boot, ...touring nationally and supporting the local scene through efforts like the POPAsheville music festival (formerly known as IdFest)....may be one of the defining Asheville-based music acts of this era."--Steve Shanafelt, Mountain Xpress

Shane Pruitt Band
$5.00 Cover
An extraordinary bluesman is raised in the suburbs;  in the shadow of a Wal-Mart store...  A youngster learns the depth and breadth of the blues without leaving his house...  Living in Spartanburg, South Carolina,  his style mimics neither the sprightly,  acoustic - based Piedmont blues indigenous to his region nor the all- influential Texas sounds of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan...  A gentle and shy young man becomes a FEROCIOUS and animated axe king the second he hits the stage...

However, that's all background material.  None of it would matter if Shane Pruitt couldn't play.  But, he plays mightily.  Tinsley Ellis calls him a "young Buddy Guy".   Patrick Vining says, "It won't be long until every blues fan in America knows Pruitt's name".  And it's not just musicians who are raving :  Peter Cooper,  music critic for the Nashville Tennessean,  names Pruitt as "the most exciting young bluesman working today".

Silas Durocher
Funk, Rock, and Classical

I’m a songwriter, composer, guitarist, and singer. I’ve played with many bands, including the Deviant Groove (jam funk), Shakedown (rock funk), and Stone Soup (folk funk) -- I likes me some funk. Stone Soup performed throughout Florida for two years and recorded a CD entitled Dancin’ Shoes. In 2006, I composed two pieces for the Florida Wind Quintet, both of which were published and have sold nationally and internationally. Other compositional works include Brass Quintet in Three Movements, performed by the Florida Brass Quintet, and Why Not, performed by the Keowee Wind Trio.

"Silas Durocher is the kind of musician whose enthusiasm is infectious, as are his rhythms and arrangements. He is a versatile musician with technical command of his instruments and his writing, and he's clever, too. His pieces groove and make me smile- just what a jaded musician needs. Playing with him was the most musical fun I've had in a long time."
